Jaume Casals

He is a philosopher. He has been rector of Pompeu Fabra University between 2013 and 2021. He is Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Humanities at UPF and full member of the Institute of Catalan Studies. He has a doctorate in Philosophy from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), 1984. Before becoming a professor at UPF, he taught at the UAB and at the Paris VII University (Denis Diderot). His main lines of research include the Greek genesis of modern and contemporary thought, philosophy and literature. He has translated and edited works by Montaigne, Montesquieu, Berkeley, and Bergson. He is the author of forty articles and the books La filosofía de Montaigne; El experimento de Aristóteles; El pozo de la palabra. Una historia de la sabiduría griega y El aprendizaje de la muerte en la historia de las ideas. He has been co-director of the magazine L' Avenç (1999-2000) and a collaborator and member of the editorial board of several international scientific collections dedicated to Renaissance literature and philosophy.
