Joan Subirats
Spanish professor and politician, current Spanish Minister of Universities since 2021. He is a specialist in governance, public management and public policy analysis. He has also worked on issues of social exclusion, problems of democratic innovation, and civil society. He served as the sixth deputy mayor for Culture, Education and Science at the Barcelona City Council between 2019 and 2021. Before that, he had collaborated with the city council as Commissioner for Culture. He is a researcher and professor in the Doctoral Program in Public Policy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He held the Prince of Asturias Chair at Georgetown University during the 2002-2003 academic year. He is a visiting professor at the universities of Roma-La Sapienza, University of California-Berkeley, New York University, CIDE and UNAM in Mexico, UBA and General Sarmiento in Argentina, and in a large number of Spanish universities and research centers. He is a member of the editorial board of several Spanish and international journals dedicated to political science and public management, and regularly collaborates in various media such as the newspapers El País and El Periódico.
