Martin Baumeister
He studied history, German and Hispanic studies in Munich and Madrid. From 1985 to 1989 he was a scientific collaborator at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and in 1992 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the social history of rural Spain. From 1992 to 1999 he was a scientific assistant at the Humboldt University of Berlin and in 2001 he qualified as a university professor with a study on the cultural history of the First World War. In 2002/03 he worked as a professor at the Humboldt University of Berlin and since 2003 he is Full Professor of European History of the 19th and 20th Centuries (with a special focus on Southern Europe) at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. In 2010/11 he was visiting scientist at the Istituto Storico Germanico in Rome, of which he took over the directorship on October 1, 2012. He is a member of the board of the "Gesellschaft für Stadtgeschichte und Urbanisierungsforschung" (since 2008), of the scientific board of the magazines Historia del Presente (since 2009) and Semata. Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades and co-editor of the journals IMS - Informationen zur modernen Stadtgeschichte (since 2003) and Müncher Beiträge zur Jüdischen Geschichte und Kultur (since 2007).
