Ángela Nieto
PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, she develops her work at the Institute of Neurosciences of Alicante – a mixed center of the CSIC and the Miguel Hernández University–. In addition to her work as director of the Group of Cellular Movements in Physiology and Pathology of the Institute of Neurosciences, CSIC-UMH Alicante, she combines this work with other positions in various public and private institutions: president of the International Society for Developmental Biologists (ISDB) , member of the Board of Directors of the International Society of Differentiation, member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), member of the European Academy, member of the Scientific and Technical Committee of the State Research Agency (AEI) and member of the High Council Consultative of the Generalitat Valenciana, among others. Among the various awards and recognitions that she has received, it is worth highlighting: 2004-Award from the Carmen y Severo Ochoa Foundation. 2009 – Rey Jaime I Prize for Basic Research, 2017 - Mexico Prize 2017 for Science and Technology awarded by the Government of Mexico. 2018 - Cancer Research Award 2018, awarded by the Spanish Association for Cancer Research. 2019 - 'Santiago Ramón y Cajal' National Research Award for Biology. She is currently president of the International Society for Developmental Biology, a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) since 2000, and a member of the Academy of Europe since 2009. She directs the Pathophysiology of Cell Movements in Vertebrates group at the Institute of Neurosciences UMH-CSIC. Author of more than 130 articles in high-impact scientific journals, Nieto is among the most internationally cited researchers in the area of Developmental Biology.
